Curly birch, known also as Karelian birch, Masur birch or Karelian Birch burl blank. Perfect material for carving Nordic-style birch handle or hand carved items like pens or sustainable wooden jewellery.
The Curly birch standard grade blank is a bit less covered with curly birch pattern than premium grade blanks. Nevertheless it is a great carving material as often the standard grade blanks are well patterned on three sides and may contain less pattern on one side. Standard grade blank may contain smaller knot or two.
Our wood is cut in winter-time and kiln dried. We saw blanks from our trees manually to bring out the best of the Birch burl pattern including flame- and curly figures. Part of the wood is covered with luminous-looking wood waves. Ideal material for carving knives with birch handle.
Please notice that wood is a natural material and can contain (not visible) small, easily repairable inner cracks. Every Curly birch scale pattern is unique. This wood can (but not necessarily) contain max 1-2 smaller knots. These blanks are cut from thinned out trees. Our aim is to use as much as possible this slow growing, rare and stunning patterned wood.
Dimensions of blocks may vary slightly, it means, that you can get a bit bigger block than described.
