Curly birch, known also as Karelian birch, Masur birch or Karelian Birch burl blank. Stabilised Curly birch wood is the perfect material for carving Puukko or Sami-style knife handles, wooden jewellery or for any other timeless precious handcrafted object.

The Curly birch blank is well covered with highly valued characteristic birch burl pattern.  The Curly birch scale is well dried, manually sawn to bring out the best of the Birch burl pattern including flame- and curly figures. Part of the wood is covered with luminous wood waves.

Please notice that wood is a natural material. Each Curly birch scale has its unique pattern. Stabilised Curly birch wood scale can (but not necessarily) contain small, easily repairable inner cracks.

Curly birch block is dyed and impregnated with stabilizing resin throughout in a professional grade. Curlybirchwood stabilises Karelian birch wood with non-toxic and non-flammable cactus juice. Purpose of stabilisation is to make birch burl wood even 3x harder than oak wood. Stabilisation brings out wood natural beauty and most important: this process makes Curly birch wood resistant to humidity.

Additional information about Curly birch:

Curly birch’s also known as Karelian birch, Masur birch or Birch burl. Curly birch  grainy pattern wood belongs to the world’s ten most expensive among the precious wood. Despite of its appearance, Curly birch is not considered as endangered species because the curly birch is a genetical variation (mutation) of a silver birch which gives the tree its unique pattern. Therefore, the cultivation of curly birch is environmentally friendly, because this valued wood originates mainly from former agricultural areas. Most of our plantation curly birch trees are certified clones of most famous Finnish curly birch tree called “Visa Kuningatar”
